Arizona State has announced the signing of four players to its 2017 recruiting class, with senior guard T.J. Barrett joining the Wildcats as a defensive end.
Barrett, a 6-foot-3, 275-pounder from West Linn, Illinois, will be the first commit for the Sun Devils this season, according to a press release from Arizona State.
Barrett was ranked No. 24 in the 247Sports Composite, per Rivals.com, and was considered a top-100 recruit by multiple national rankings.
He has also been rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Illinois by Rivals.
The 6-4, 280-pound Barrett also will compete with five other top-50 players, including three-star quarterback Austin Allen, who committed to Arizona State earlier this month.
Barrett’s recruiting will be led by his former Illinois teammate and close friend, senior guard Garrett Fitzgerald, who was a top recruit in Illinois by 247Sports.
Fitzgerald, a senior, also will be in attendance as part of Arizona State’s official class announcement on Friday, May 20, as part to the school’s recruiting day festivities.
Arizona State joins a growing list of top-ranked programs, including Arizona, Arizona State and Florida State, in the Pac-12 Conference.
The Sun Devils have four commits from the Pac 12 Conference this year, including two of the top-10 recruits in the country.
The Arizona State class, ranked No: 2 by Rivals, is one of four full-time commits in the Big Sky Conference.
Arizona has added three players to their 2018 recruiting class: sophomore guard Brandon Allen, and three-year commit forward Marcus Jones.
